Appearance:
Hotaru is usually mistaken for older than she really is, due to her being not only tall for her age, measuring up to about 5’8”, but is also very mature due to her past. Her golden brown eyes show an understanding to life no twelve-year-old should have. Her golden locks are usually pulled into a low, long ponytail with her headband tied around her forehead. Her skin is well tanned from living in the desert, and a smile is not a rare site.

As for her attire, she usually wears a black sleeveless half-top with black ninja pants, wrappings coming from the waist up to her belly button. She then wraps bandages around her legs below her pants down to her black shinobi sandals and around her hands and arms.
Personality:
She is very meek, which is probably why she doesn’t have many friends. Those friends that she does have, though, she is very loyal to. She is very determined and will stop at nothing to complete the task at hand, other than sacrifice her friends or take an innocent life. She loves helping people and a smile is not a rare sight. She will try to help whenever she can.

In battle, her attitude is slightly different. When a battle begins, her smile fades away into an emotionless expression. This allows her to not give away too much of her plans or look too cocky. Her eyes narrow ever so slightly and she becomes more silent than before. She will speak in very short sentences before a battle, but once fighting has commenced, she closes her mouth and doesn’t open again until the battle is over. Even in battle she is humble and tries not to flaunt her intelligence. Her strategy skills are higher than most shinobi her age, giving her the advantage in many situations, but she still refuses to show it.

History:
Hotaru was the daughter of an ANBU in the Takeshi clan and a strong-willed ANBU shinobi. They began training her at the age of four, setting high expectations for a young kunoichi not even in the academy. At age six, she started the academy and was very meek. You would think that with the skills she possessed, she would be popular among her peers, but they seemed to completely ignore her. It might’ve been because of her meek attitude.

One day when she got home from the academy, she walked in to her father and mother fighting, and not like some quarrel between a married couple, but full out combat. Jutsu were flying left and right as were punches, but in the end, her father became victorious. Her mother’s body went limp and fell in a bloody puddle to the ground. Hotaru began to cry. What could’ve made him do something like this? Then her father came toward her and began to attack her, his own daughter! His words were inaudible to the young girl as she took punch after punch. As she was fading out of the world, she caught a glimpse of an ANBU mask. After getting this small look at her savior, her mind blacked out. The next thing she knew, she was in the hospital, covered in bandages. She didn’t remember much of what happened, but she did remember it was her father who did it, so has held a great resentment for her father ever since.

After a while, she went back to the academy and ended up graduating at the age of ten. At her graduation, as a gift and to honor her mother’s death, Hotaru was given her mother’s sword. Although, she didn’t quite know what to do with it considering she had never actually learned of her clan ability at the time.

A month after graduation, a member of her clan came and offered her training, and she was an exceptionally fast learner and ended up learning both the first and second release of her clan’s main ability, weapon transformation. It still took her three months to learn these, though. She can only hold the second release for about ten minutes, but this is still better than most clan members her age. She was also able to learn Weapon Specialization with her Kusari-gama release in spite of her teacher trying to talk her out of it. Most clan members never specialized in a lower level release.

Nowadays, she spends most of her time alone, either training, reading, or drawing.
